The gist of the headline was that Jean Francois Kerry, along with several of his liberal friends in the United States Congress, had contacted the United States Justice Department to ask for an investigation into "illegal coordination" between the Bush Campaign and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Now many people will comment on the hypocritical nature of this request coming from the Democrats. But I think there is a much more salient, and much more subtle point to be made here.

Over the past several weeks, the John Ashcroft's Justice Department has been very visible. Why? Because they have recently had a series of arrests/indictments of individuals/organizations located in the United States who are actively engaged in terrorist cells. In other words, the Justice Department is kicking butt domestically on the war on terror.

In fact, the press conferences have been so frequent, that many on the left (Yes, Josh Marshall and Oliver Willis, I'm talking to you) have made an issue of "questioning the timing/motivation" behind all of the public attention that the Justice Department has been receiving.

But even as the Justice Department continues to kick butt, the left has been making a seperate critique on the War on Terror: That Bush needlessly and recklessly diverted precious resources away from the War on Terror when he made the decision to commit troops to the liberation of Iraq.

Which leaves us with an interesting question: Isn't the request that the Democrats/Kerry have made to have the Justice Department investigate "criminal wrongdoing" in the Swift Boat ads a diversion of resources away from the War on Terror? After all, what would most Americans rather see: a federal prosecutor busting Al Qaeda cells in the US, or that same prosecutor assigned to investigate why Republican contributors are inclined to support an anti-Kerry group?

What conclusion, then can one draw from this episode?

That in their desperate pursuit for power, the liberals are more than willing to weaken the Justice Departments anti-terrorism efforts by diverting precious resources.

And they wonder why Americans don't trust them on National Security matters.

I yield the floor.

Top Ten Things Kerry said during the Swift Vets Call.....

A good friend of this blog, Ace of Spades HQ, has a great take on today's Kerry/Swift Boat Vet phone call in his post entitled "Calling the SwiftVets: John Forbes Kerry's First Diplomatic Test". Essentially, Ace calls upon Kerry to use his self-proclaimed extreme diplomatic skills to smooth this dispute over.

Unbeknownst to Ace, however, the Senator was present for this historic call, and had the opportunity to listen to Kerry's negotiating skills first hand. As the following list will reveal, I was left unimpressed.

I present to you, then, the top ten things John Kerry said when calling the Swift Vets.

10. Failure to pull those ads will result in my going "Jenjis Caan" on you.

9. I must admit...those ads do have a certain "je ne sais quoi" about them."

8. It's not like you can get anywhere in life by lying about and maliciously smearing others!

7. Do you know who I am???!!!

6. No really. Do you know who I am? I've told so many stories I can't really remember.

5. Look..pull the ads and I'll get you a sweet deal on the ketchup concession for the next VFW convention.

4. Do you treasure your family? 'Cause I know some guys from Cambodia who owe me a "favor"....wait...why are you laughing?

3. Cowards don't bring hamsters back from the brink of death! Especially when said hamster is under heavy VC fire that no one else remembers!

2. You want to bring it on? Anytime you want to go "garcon a garcon" you know where to find me.

1. Please? Pretty Please? Pretty Pretty Please with a Cherry on top? This is truly an "ask not what the Senator can do for you; ask what you can do for the Senator" moment.

And what I ask is simply this: First, watch the newest adby the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Second, make a donation to the Swift Boat Vets. The Senator personally contributed $50 this afternoon.

The impetus for my decision? The sense of outrage I felt all day as I read about the Kerry campaign's attempts to suppress the publishing of the Swift Vets book, Unfit For Command , as well as my disgust at the hypocracy that would lead the Kerry campaign to attempt to get the FEC to ban the latest Swift Boat ad.

I have to keep this entry short, but I have an observation about the actual FEC filing that I will make later. While you wait to read more of the Senator's rhetorical brilliance, go watch that video. Make a contribution. The Hurricane forced the cancellation of some of the Senatrix's flights, so we will get to spend some quality time celebrating the arrival of my 30th year. I hope you folks down in Florida are riding it out ok. Having lived through Andrew, I know how rough these storms can be.

Posting will probably be light today and tomorrow, as this blog is the one little secret I keep from the 'Trix, and with her around I will be hard pressed to sneak a few entries in.
